Bhutanese Cuisine Uses Chilli, a Lot
19 Sep 2024 |

It is probably the first time we have been given dishes where chilli is the vegetable, not just the condiment. And then, they add chilli sauce to their chilli based dishes.
The market had tons, with some piles approaching a metre in height.

Looking down in the bustling market place of Tashkent's Chorsu Bazaar. This is just the inner building, the original heart of the market, which now spans multiple city blocks in every direction. It is the largest market in Central Asia.

When the ribs are that long and slim, you know you are in the horse meat section of the market.
Market, Almaty

Day one in Almaty, after an all night flight and a morning dozey nap, we headed out on a perfect cultural immersion, the local produce market. This very significant market is known as the "Green Bazaar".
While we had more colour splashed across the screen in some of our other photos, particularly the spices, this one stood out because of the beautiful faces.

Interesting Combinations, Market Day, Sololá

The indigenous outfits are not at all based on concepts of choosing patterns which match, at least not in the Western sense. Certain patterns and designs are frequently used in trousers, while different ones are used in shirts, or wraps, or skirts. The textiles used are usually colourful, and particularly in women's shirts, often intricately hand embroidered. Although it looks a little haphazard, particularly on the men, it is rarely dishevelled or messy. Locals can tell what village a person comes from by the what they are wearing and the way it is worn or tied. This was taken on market day, when people from many villages descend on Sololá, and the differences and similarities could be spotted in the throngs.

Ensuring We Get Our Fruit

Sometimes we find that we eat a lot of things that taste good but aren't necessarily so good for us. So we need to be disciplined and ensure we eat our fruit. Oh, chocolate and nuts on our strawberries? I don't know what THEY were doing there!
