Morning One in Budapest

15 May 2022 70
Arriving in Budapest, we were graciously hosted in the apartment of Marina and Akos. They said snow was in the forecast, and we woke to the fresh layer. This will probably be our last snowfall for this winter.

Loving our Snow Trip

Jo, part way down Roccaraso. It's been a few years since we have been on the skis, but it seemed to come back quicker than even we thought it might. Like riding a bike...

Morning 1, Looking Out

Vermont, Day 1. Waking up and walking around pre-breakfast, taking in just how "stereo typical" New England it all felt.

The Main Way in to Old Bomba

Through the arch, and down a bit, that's the way to our house. Poor snowed in plants.

Waking up in Laza, it was obviously cold overnight. Visibility had improved, though. We did not know that rocky formation was there when we went to sleep the night before. Between you and me, though, I would not have put the washing out given the prevailing weather, and I would have assumed locals would be better at picking that than I.

Cliffs and Snow add Dramatic Effect

As I said, the location and setting is the main part of the attraction and fame of this church of Kazbegi.

Priests Heading Through the Snow

28 Mar 2013 235
We have no idea where they were off to. We thought that the only likely direction from the church would be down, to the village below. But they had headed in another direction entirely, and all we could think of was that there must be another church or chapel or shrine, somewhere close in the mountains.

The Kazbegi church itself is old and interesting in its own right. However, its fame and lure is greater because of its location and history, and it is quite the symbol for Georgians.

Approach to the Church of Kazbegi

The walk up through the soft snow was a bit of work, but to come over the rise and see the church was uplifting.
