Lions are often described as majestic. This face says it all, really.
Early Morning Lions

Probably brothers, these two lions lounged so close for such a long time. They rolled in the sun, they moved a metre or two, they seemed to doze for a bit. Just before we left, they rubbed faces, and then both "plonked" on to their backs, eyes closed, contented, proud, and comfortable in their authority.
Devouring or Licking?

Not sure what this lion is doing to the person between his paws, but it was an interesting theme in the main church of Barga. A theme repeated a few times here, and regionally, too. We saw variations in churches in Lucca, and other villages we visited. Predominantly gracing the church exteriors, but even as part of the altar or pulpit (as in this case).

Playing in the grass, not far from the pride. I would take one home, but not sure if our pussy cats would appreciate a growing lion as a playmate or not.
Lion Snoozing in a Ditch
31 Jan 2013 |
|
Our first wild animal sighting in Kenya. Before all the regular animals. A lion, snoozing, during the heat of the day, in a ditch, right next to the road. We drove right up next to him. If we had not been careful, we could have run over his paws. Extremely non-fussed about us.
