Old railway path - Trinity

31 Dec 2010 148
This is a view down the path which was previously the Waverly-Granton branch line. The bridge at the front is for Lennox Row and the tunnel in the background is the Trinity Tunnel. This was taken on a misty day with some ice still on the ground and visible between the tunnel and bridge. A view of the line (from the other direction can be seen here: www.edinphoto.org.uk/0_edin_t/0_edinburgh_transport_-_rai...

This is part of the old Granton-Waverly branch line which goes under East Trinity road and a section of housing. This is now part of the pathway network around Edinburgh which uses many dismantled railway lines.

Connel Bridge

Connel Bridge spans Loch Etive between Connel and North Connel. It was originally a railway bridge for the Connel to Ballachulish branch line. Later it was shared between road and rail, but now its just a single track road bridge. Below the bridge you can see the Falls of Lora, which (as you can see) isn't a waterfall, but rather its a set of rapids that is caused by water flowing out of the upper part of Loch Etive into the lower part over a rocky shelf when the tide drops so that the water in the upper part is higher than that in the lower part.
