Mallards have been overnighting on the pond for several weeks, but this was the first day we saw the female with her ducklings. I suspect her nest is on the island.

Visiting the pond this morning, I pre-set the Canon to its "Action" setting, having disturbed a pair of mallard overnighting on the pond, over the last week or so. Success finally; I caught this male as he honked off in alarm...

Perhaps if I start putting out maize for them, they will decide to breed on the pond this year...
