Critically endangered species - in the Dawn Redwood family, a"Living fossil", rediscovered in Japan in 1941 by a joint American Japanese scientific expedition, just before Pearl Harbour! Planted about seven years ago. This will ultimately reach at least 200 feet. You see them occasionally in Botanic Gardens and national arboreta looking very majestic! It's a shame I am not going to be around to see it at 200 feet high, but that's trees for you... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metasequoia_glyptostroboides ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metasequoia_glyptostroboides )
