Irvine, North Ayshire, Scotland - Bridge of Scottish Inventors Built in 2000 The telescopic bridge slides closed to connect you to the Ardeer Peninsula, but has not been used since the closure of the Science Centre in 2003. A storm about to break over Kyleakin harbour and the ruins of Castle Moil (Casteal Maol) on the Isle of Skye. Fragments of a medieval tower are all that remain. Built in the 15th Century by the MacKinnan family, it is thought it may have been built on the site of an earlier structure. Following the death of James V a meeting of the chiefs was held here and it was decided that Sir Donald MacDonald was to become the new Lord of the Isles Prior to the building of the Skye Bridge the old ferry used to run from Loch Ailsh to Kyleakin Best viewed large. Our journey took us past Castle Ardvreck, built around 1590 on a rocky promontory on Loch Assynt, Sutherland by the Clan MacLeod. The mountain in the background is Glas Bheinn. Although the castle is mostly in ruins some walls are still standing after all these years. Mull of Galloway Lighthouse. The Mull of Galloway is the southernmost point of Scotland and this lighthouse was build by Robert Stevenson in 1830. The light is now automatic. On a clear day you can see Ireland and the Isle of Man from up here.
