Im Moment sind sie in Gärten und Grünanlagen häufig zu sehen: die Gehörnten Mauerbienen (Osmia cornuta) . Mit ihrem leuchtend rostroten Hinterleib und ihrer starken Behaarung sind sie kaum zu übersehen und werden von vielen mit einer Hummel verwechselt. Die Gehörnte Mauerbiene lebt wie alle Mauerbienen solitär, bildet also keine Staaten und legt in Spalten und Röhren in Serie bis zu 12 Zellen an, in denen auf zuvor eingetragenem Pollen jeweils 1 Ei abgelegt wird. Die daraus enstandene Larve ernährt sich dann von diesem Nahrungsvorrat. Das Puppenstadium endet etwa im Herbst. Die geschlüpften Mauerbienen bleiben dann über den Winter in ihrem Nest.
