1580 wurde das Julius-Spital Würzburg eröffnet, initiiert und finanziert aus seinem Privatvermögen vom damaligen Fürstbischof JuliusEchter. Der goldene Schriftzug über dem Eingangstor (siehe Foto) besagt: "Das Juliusspital für Arme, Preßhafte (übersetzt: Gebrechliche) und Kranke". Das Juliusspital ist Bestandteil der Juliusspital-Stiftung, die 1579 gegründet wurde. Sie hat alle Kriege überdauert und ist bis heute voll funktionsfähig. Fast unglaublich! Der Grund ist, dass sich der Baum durch die abnehmende Tageslänge und sinkende Temperaturen auf den Winter vorbereitet, indem er das wertvolle Chlorophyll abbaut und im Stamm deponiert.
