Diesen männlichen Grünspecht (Picus viridis) konnte ich in einer Streuobstwiese beobachten. Zuerst suchte er zwischen den Wiesenpflanzen nach Nahrung, dann bemerkte er mich, flog auf und setzte sich an einen Baumpfahl. In dieser Stellung konnte ich ihn fotografieren. Vom sonst gleich aussehenden Weibchen unterscheidet sich das Männchen durch den roten, schwarz umrandeten Bartstreif unterhalb des Auges (siehe Notiz). Der Grünspecht sucht seine seine Nahrung (Ameisen und andere Insekten) fast ausschließlich am Boden ("Bodenspecht"). de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gr%C3%BCnspecht I was able to observe this male European green woodpecker (Picus viridis) in an orchard meadow. At first it was looking for food among the meadow plants, then it noticed me, flew up and sat on a tree post. I was able to photograph it in this position. The male can be distinguished from the female, which otherwise looks the same, by the moustachial stripe, that has a red centre (see note). The European green woodpecker forages for its food (ants and other insects) almost exclusively on the ground.
