Eine Besonderheit: Aus den aufgesaugten Pflanzensäften können sie Giftstoffe herausfiltern und in ihre Körpergewebe einlagern. Die auffällige rote Farbe der Hinterflügel, die sie bei Störung zeigen, dient wohl als Warnfarbe.
