Nur selten zeigt der C-Falter (Polygonia c-album) seine rindenfarbige Unterseite mit dem weißen C. Klar ist, dass diese Färbung (susammen mit den unregelmäßigen Flügelrändern) bestens der Tarnung dient, wenn der Falter auf einem Ast oder Baumstamm sitzt. Diese seltsame Raupe mit ganz spitzen Dornen am ganzen Körper und bunter Farbe (ca. 3 cm groß) fand ich auf einer Brennnessel sitzend an einem Waldweg. Eine solche Raupe hatte ich noch nie gesehen. Ich konnte sie als die Raupe vom C-Falter (Nymphalis c-album) bestimmen. Merkmale: viele spitze Stacheln und bei älteren Raupen die weiße Farbe der Oberseite des hinteren Körperdrittels. Diese Weißfärbung ist im PiP besonders gut zu sehen.
