...He must have been in complete shock as it was mid afternoon, sunny day and a good breeze blowing him around in the little tin. I have no idea how long exactly he's been hatched into an adult in the tin, they don't hibernate, so he may have been in there for a month or more. Walking around, no room to fly, in complete darkness, wondering as many of us do at times in our lives.."is this all there is?"
When the can opened he first tried to hide under the mostly eaten seeds, so I closed the lid and got the camera ready. Next I opened it up and he was all too ready to see the big, bright, loud, moving world :)
I was worried he had prematurely hatched and wouldn't be able to find a mate, but as it turns out, Mike Wall from HantsMoths assures me he'll have no problem this time of year, and hes off to a better start now...
I'm pretty sure I'm going to need new Nasturtium seeds though, and you can bet I'll be double checking them for live widgets before I store them for next year :)

Being the nature nutter I am, my biggest annoyance with that was knowing that the caterpillars would have hardly anything to eat on, as radishes are small and picked in a few weeks time.
So my friend gladly donated to me a small sweets tin full of Nasturtium seeds, I kept the tin in the house waiting for spring. When I got ready to plant all my lovely bug loving flowers, I opened the tin to see how many seeds I had, and there he was....
