Agrypnus murinus I think.. Huge guy though.

Last time we visited Denge in the warm months I saw this moth fleetingly, and have wanted to see it again. We saw a few on this day, but none that would cooperate, I crawled around on my hands and knees for ages. Finally netted one and potted him to see if he would calm down for a photo. He was having none of it, so I put little bits of wood in the pot and hoped to take a photo in there, which worked 'okish'. Don't you know as soon as I let him out he landed and sat there letting me take photos for 15 mins...haha

I'm pretty sure, could be Lesser Treble-bar but habitat and the marks say Treble-bar to me.

Needless to say I was in mothy heaven at Denge :)

On Lady Orchid

Just not something I get to see everyday so posted a few shots, they are so lovely.

Another crap shot of this butterfly...will I never get one to just be still a minute without using a fly swatter..hahaha

Female is on the bottom here, and is really nicely marked for anything named 'dingy'... I'll refrain from making any 'dirty' sex jokes...

I've always heard these were fratillaries, but as it turns out they are actually the only UK resident 'metalmark'. "..A curious characteristic of this subfamily is that the female has 6 fully-functional legs, whereas the male has only 4 - the forelegs being greatly reduced." From UK Butterflies site. I did wonder if they had been disabled in war with other butterflies.
