This photo almost does justice to how tiny they are, approx the size of a pencil led or a screw from a pair of glasses. About the size of the tiny Orb weaver babies that form the balls, they seem to spread when disturbed but come back to congrigate at the egg pod. They are black and red, six legs and two antanea, with a insignia on the red part of the shell. Unfortunetly my equipment wouldn't allow for much clearer a shot at such tiny sizes. Found in the Heath/grass area of Filsham Reed bed/Combe Haven Valley, East Sussex UK.

Rare never seen before beetle turns out to be ordinary common Dock Bug, story at 11. Early instar.
