Opened up the home studio again last nite to get some shots of some of the bottles we've collected.
These are two small liquor bottles, not sure of the age but old enough, along side a shot glass which is probably not so old but purty :)

This one is still full of the liquid it originally held, smells a bit spearmint like.

Reared Elephant Hawk Moth -Ella Face

Some folks may recall us finding a pupa of a moth in the beginning of April ( Large Pupa ) So we brought it home due to its unfortunate location in a wet muddy footpath and raised her.
We've kept her in dirt in a bug house with wire mesh sides, lightly misted her about every 2 - 3 days and in a cool dark room and she finally emerged today :D
What a fantastic face she has!

Plump and pink and flight tested we took her back to the location we found her at Filsham and let her go.

I really feel privileged to have been a part of this process with her.

What a sight it was to see her and know that she has matured and is going back to the wild and that we helped. We took her back to Filsham where we found her and let her fly off :)

Pretty little green beetle, too small for a female Fat-legged but saw several in the flowers so likely some type of flower beetle.
Thanks Thaptor for having a look at this one and IDing it.

Posted this guy to NaturePlus from the NHM to see what he is. Really amazing looking :)
Update: Tipula has gotten back to me on the forum over there and ID'd this as one of the many species of Ruby-tailed Wasp. They are known as Cuckoo Wasps as they lay thier eggs in other solitary bee or wasp nests.
Frankly I can't believe in the years and bugs I've chased I've not seen one before.

We were walking along, not much happening as it was really a bit too hot, and I felt something hit my hand...as any bug chaser knows you always look to see what is on you before you swat it away..lol
This guy was sitting on my right hand (so I couldnt take a shot!! :( ) However I went running over to Liz and said 'look look, take its picture... god I hope it doesnt bite me'. So while I'm trying hard to be very still so she can take the above shot, sure enough hes bitting me and getting a good ol meal..lol But frankly it was worth it, Just look at him!
Any help on an ID would be great, I'd love for one to come along and bite my left hand so I can take a shot with the raynox :)
