Reared Elephant Hawk Moth -Ella Face

22 May 2010 103
Some folks may recall us finding a pupa of a moth in the beginning of April ( Large Pupa ) So we brought it home due to its unfortunate location in a wet muddy footpath and raised her. We've kept her in dirt in a bug house with wire mesh sides, lightly misted her about every 2 - 3 days and in a cool dark room and she finally emerged today :D What a fantastic face she has!

We took her back to Filsham where we found her and let her fly off :)

Ruby-tailed Wasp

Posted this guy to NaturePlus from the NHM to see what he is. Really amazing looking :) Update: Tipula has gotten back to me on the forum over there and ID'd this as one of the many species of Ruby-tailed Wasp. They are known as Cuckoo Wasps as they lay thier eggs in other solitary bee or wasp nests. Frankly I can't believe in the years and bugs I've chased I've not seen one before.
