"In May 1864 Robert Tod feud approximately 26 acres of the Lands of Clermiston from William McFie of Clermiston House, Corstorphine (NAS RS27/2443/60, 65). McFie stipulated that any dwelling house erected on this land must cost a minimum of £1,000 sterling with Coach house, Stables, Lodge, and offices extra.
