Our Canadian HelpXer Bastien built this garden bed. I've decided to name all the beds ( here's why ) and am thinking about finding a discrete and attractive way to put names on different things around our farm that were built by WWOOFers and HelpXers.

Have decided to name all my vegetable beds. Instead of writing in my notes "planted garlic in veg bed #3 in veg garden #1" I can write "planted garlic in the Aaron bed". Much easier. Aaron did build this one, too.

Bastien (alias Awesome) dismantled the old bed, and removed all the soil. Then he built the new ones, and lined the sides with plastic. He mixed the old soil with fresh compost and cow pooey mud from the paddock and spread that in the bed. Then he put bags of mature compost on top, and a thick (10cm) layer of mulch on top.

The old beds were made from untreated pine sleepers which we got for free. We knew they wouldn't last, but we got a good 5 years from them. We did not think to line them with plastic, so they fell apart even quicker.
