The Kitty of Necessity

11 Apr 2015 74
Whenever I was at my worst in Myanmar, a kitty would appear to comfort me. In this case, this kitten came trotting into the foyer, unafraid and very friendly. When the Manager saw how much it cheered me up (after days in bed) he told his staff to bring it to me. It came every day.

Hotel 63 breakfast bar

The best breakfast spread we had in Myanmar. Not just two eggs (boiled, fried or scrambled), toast and tea, but a BUFFET! Wheeee!

Burmese soccer fans

Because I was sick we ate in the hotel's dining room. (I drank tea and plain rice.) We were the only diners there. The two waiters were so pleased when Ad asked f we could change the channel to watch the soccer match instead of the Burmese soap series, and were clearly big fans, too.

new road

Outside our hotel they were laying a new road. Concrete. Yangon.

and then I got sick

11 Apr 2015 69
It was our own fault. There were coffee and tea making facilities in the room and we stupidly (what were we thinking?!) used tap water to make the tea. Just one mouthful in and I knew it was a bad idea. It tasted awful for one thing. And then later that night my body made its disapproval clear. Projectile ejection of said bacteria from both ends. I was in bed for almost two days, sweating and chundering.

in case of emergency...

I like instruction no. 8 for the lift: "Please do not kick the lift wall or the door. The Lift will not back to normal by doing all this." In Hotel 63, Yangon.

Hotel 63 guest rules

Rule number 5 is my favourite. We opted not to try for the Kyat 15,000.

You can use just about everything there, and so do they.

last hotel in Burma

11 Apr 2015 97
We fled the awful Beauty Land Hotel 1, and took a chance on Hotel 63 at the far end of town. It was worth it! Clean, well appointed, the best bed so far on the trip, and helpful staff.
