Fort Oranje Lighthouse

The stone tower was built in 1932. It replaced the wooden lighthouse built in 1868. It is an active lighthouse within the Fort Oranje, which is the oldest structure on Bonaire. It was built by the Dutch in 1639.

The area is 294 km², the population is around 20000, the language is Dutch and Papiamento. It's a "Overseas Region" of the Netherlands. Bonaire's earliest known inhabitants were the Arkaiko Indians, whose presence on Bonaire can be traced back to 2500 before the Common Era. Caquetio came later from Venezuela by canoe. Caquetio culture was destroyed by Europeans in the 15th and 16th century.
