The Bernina Railway is a single-track 1000 mm gauge railway line forming part of the Rhaetian Railway. It links St. Moritz, Switzerland, with Tirano, Italy, via the Bernina Pass. Reaching a height of 2253 m, it is the highest railway crossing in Europe and the third-highest railway in Switzerland. It also ranks as the highest adhesion railway of the continent, and – with inclines of up to 7% – as one of the steepest adhesion railways in the world. Piz Bernina, the highest peak of the Bernina range with 4049 m, is hidden in the clouds, the high peak to the right is Piz Morteratsch (3751 m). - scanned slide, Minolta X700
