US-american hobos (travelling workers) and tramps often used freight trains and one of the more dangerous options was the place under the wagons. A famous tramp was Jack London, who wrote about this life in "The Road" (1907, in German "Abenteuer des Schienenstranges"). Lee Marvin and Ernest Borgnine are brilliant in the movie "Emperor of the North" (1973, in German "Ein Zug für 2 Halunken").
