Glen Canyon Dam is a concrete arch-gravity dam on the Colorado River in northern Arizona, near the town of Page. The 220 m high dam was built from 1956 to 1966 and forms Lake Powell, one of the largest man-made reservoirs in the with a capacity of 33 km³. The catchment area of Colorado river is 280590 km². The power house has eight Francis turbines, each has a cpower of 254000 hp. The total Installed capacity is 1320 MW (for comparison: Hoover Dam power plant has a capacity of 2080 MW). - see PiP's

Lake Powell in the border area between Utah and Arizona is the Lake with the longest shoreline, unbelievable 3057 km. It's part of the river Colorado drainage area and is a man made raservoir, dammed by the Glen Canyon dam since 1963. This Photo is taken from Wahweap Overlook.
