The Washington Square Arch, officially the Washington Arch, is a marble Roman triumphal arch in Washington Square Park, in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Lower Manhattan, New York City. Designed by architect Stanford White in 1891, it commemorates the centennial of George Washington's 1789 inauguration as President of the United States, and forms the southern terminus of Fifth Avenue. It was the world's tallest skyscraper from 1913-1930 (!), when it was surpassed by 40 Wall Street and the Chrysler Building. View from World Trade Center (South Tower) to East River, Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan Bridge behind. The East River comes from the left background, the right bay is "Wallabout Bay" with the decommissioned Brooklyn Navy Yard. At the Bay are some chimneys (better in the PiP), they are gone in the meantime and belonged to the large power plant of the Consolidated Edison Company (1920s). scanned slide, Minolta X700

WTC-2 left and WTC-1 right, in the year 1986. WTC 1 had been built 1968 bis 1972, WTC 2 from 1969 bis 1973. WTC 1 was 417 m tall (with antenna 526,7 m) and WTC 2 415 m, both with 110 floors. The World Trade Center Building is a historic 33-story, 124 m-tall skyscraper designed by noted architect Edward Durell Stone, opened 1967. It is now used and known as Four Seasons Hotel. In 1986 the top floor hosted a cocktail lounge called "Top of the Mart". The bar slowly rotated once per hour and the next image was taken from there.
