Shaft no. 4, called "Belle Fleur", on the hill behind the main buildings, still in good shape. Built in 1927, the Belle-Fleur mine was equipped by a little tower made of reinforced concrete and a low power winch. Its work was to bring the tailings back to the surface. This is the last image about the coal mine Hasard Cheratte.

Coal mine of Hasard de Cheratte - 1

The Coal mine of Hasard de Cheratte (or Cheratte 10) was the main colliery of the Société anonyme des Charbonnages du Hasard, and had four shafts. It is located in Cheratte, a section of the Belgian town of Visé in Liège province in Wallonia. The first shaft was dug in 1850 to extract dice coal and closed for the first time in 1877 following an accident. It reopened 30 years later in 1907 and operated until 1977. In the early 21st century the mine has gained some notoriety as an urban ruin. Remediation of the site and the demolition of several buildings start in 2017. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coal_mine_of_Hasard_de_Cheratte This photo was made by my daughter. Access to the site was possible over the last years, but is now impossible from all sides due to high protection fences or walls. The industrial ensemble is already destroyed, an example of failing monumental protection. Only the oldest - castle like - buildings remained under protection, which you can see here.

A closer view to the "coal mine castle", a unique architectur of a mine shaft tower, which is called "Malakoff Tower" ;-) This here is "mine shaft 1", shaft 4 will be shown later, shaft 3 is unfortunately already demolished and shaft 2 long gone. The whole original ensemble can be seen here (Wikipedia): upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/11/Charbonnage_du_Hasard_66.JPG/1920px-Charbonnage_du_Hasard_66.JPG
