The 12th century ossuary in Michael's chapel is one of the most interesting sights in Hallstatt (upper Austria). More than 600 artistically painted skulls can be admired here. The skull painting was mainly done in the 19th century. This custom is still used in Hallstatt today. Hallstatt has the largest collection of skulls that has ever existed. Jahrhundert stammende Beinhaus in der Michaels Kapelle gehört zu den interessantesten Sehenswürdigkeiten in Hallstatt (Oberösterreich). Mehr als 600 kunstvoll bemalte Schädel sind hier zu bewundern. Die Schädelmalerei wurde hauptsächlich im 19. Jahrhunderts durchgeführt. Noch heute findet dieser Brauch in Hallstatt Anwendung. Hallstatt besitzt die größte Schädelsammlung, die es je gegeben hat.
