Andreas Hofer , leader of the Tyrolean People's Uprising against the Bavarian and French occupation of his homeland in 1809. After being captured, he was condemned to immediate death on February 19, 1810 at Napoleon's behest. The Tyrolean struggle caused a great stir in Europe at the time. It encouraged other European peoples to resist Napoleonic rule. After Napoleon's first abdication in 1814, Tyrol reverted to Austria. The Monument was erected in 1892 on the Bergisel near Innsbruck, where the three great battles of the Tyroleans against the Bavarians and the French took place. ~~~~~ Andreas Hofer, Anführer des Tiroler Volksaufstands 1809 gegen die bayerische und französische Besetzung seiner Heimat. Nach der Gefangennahme wurde er am 19. Februar 1810 auf Geheiß Napoleons zum sofortigen Tode verurteilt. Der Kampf der Tiroler erregte seinerzeit großes Aufsehen in Europa. Er bestärkte andere europäische Völker im Widerstand gegen die napoleonische Herrschaft. Nach der ersten Abdankung Napoleons 1814 fiel Tirol wieder an Österreich. Das Denkmal wurde 1892 auf dem Bergisel bei Innsbruck errichtet, wo die drei großen Schlachten der Tiroler gegen die Bayern und die Franzosen stattfanden. ~~~~~
