An ancient blast furnace, situated in Vordernberg (Styria, Austria). Since its construction in the year 1631 it served its function to make raw iron out of iron ore and charcoal for more than 260 years - until 1899. A big water wheel, which isn't preseserved any longer, moved the fan, which blew the required air into the furnace. The picture shows one of the 14 furnaces, which is preserved. It is called Radwerk X ("Rad" = wheel, "werk"=plant, "X"= No.10). ~~~~~ Ein alter Hochofen in Vordernberg (Steiermark, Österreich). Nach seiner Erbauung im Jahr 1631 wurde dort über 260 Jahre lang - bis zur Stilllegung 1899 - Roheisen aus Erz und Holzkohle erschmolzen. Ein großes (nicht mehr erhaltenes) Wasserrad trieb das Gebläse an, mit dem die nötige Luft in den Ofen geblasen wurde. Daher der Name Radwerk.
