Diamond dust is formed by the condensation of atmospheric water vapour into ice needles. As they float down, they glisten brilliantly in the light of the rising sun. This rarely seen phenomenon was photographed early in the morning during a snowshoe hike in St. Johann in Tirol (Austria). ~~~~~ Diamantstaub entsteht durch Kondensation von atmosphärischem Wasserdampf zu Eisnadeln. Beim Herabschweben glitzern sie strahlend im Licht der aufgehenden Sonne. Diese selten zu sehende Erscheinung wurde frühmorgens bei einer Schneeschuhwanderung in St. Johann in Tirol (Österreich) aufgenommen. ~~~~~
