Compressed

20 May 2007 107
One of those days when the leaden skies seemed to be compressing everything downwards. A better day for the beach than the hills. This is taken on the walk out to Faraid Head looking across Balknakeil Bay. Sutherland, NW Scotland.

Am Fasarinen

06 Jan 2007 144
Looking back towards Liathach's highest summit and the formidable (if you aren't a climber) Am Fasarinen ('The Teeth') pinnacles. We took the easier option of slightly lower but very exposed narrow path on the opposite side to this view. Torridon, NW Scotland.

Can Sheep Swim?

06 Jan 2007 128
Attractive vanishing fence with a view over Loch Shieldaig. Shieldaig, NW Scotland

Nature's Infinity Swimming Pool

06 Jan 2007 105
A bit cold though I suspect. The view over Loch nan Eun on the top of Ben Shieldaig looking out over Loch Torridon to Skye in the distance. Some really characteristic northern summer light with somewhat uncharacteristic blue skies! Torridon, NW Scotland.

A Previous Conquest

06 Jan 2007 139
Looking over to Beinn Alligin which we walked a few days earlier. Taken from Liathach's Mullach An Rathain summit (1023m) just beofre starting our steep descent to the Torridon valley. Torridon, NW Scotland

Cliff And Bow

20 May 2007 196
This really nice rainbow seemed to fit this cliff quite well. Looking towards Coigach across Gruinard bay. Wester Ross, NW Scotland.

On Stac Pollaidh

19 May 2007 102
Stac Pollaidh (613m) is a very rewarding to climb 'mini-mountain' near Ullapool in NW Scotland. The mountain in the distance is Cul Mor (849m).

Double Bow

20 May 2007 109
An intense double rainbow looking out over Gruinard bay towards Coigach - it's out there somewhere! Wester Ross, NW Scotland.

Sandwood Bay

20 May 2007 126
This fabulous beach is only accessible on foot, after a four mile walk. It is now under the care of the John Muir Trust and hopefully will remain relatively inacessible and unspoilt. The 60m sea stack is known as Am Buachaille. Sutherland, NW Scotland.

Shower on Cul Mor

19 May 2007 133
In typical NW Scotland fashion this short sharp shower made for some wonderful mountain atmosphere on Cul Mor (849m), seen here from Stac Pollaidh. Assynt, NW Scotland.

River Balgy

06 Jan 2007 112
Looking up the River Balgy towards the flanks of Beinn Dhamh. Not a cloud in sight! Torridon, NW Scotland Fly to this location (Requires Google Earth )

O Wonderful Shiny Mountain Day

06 Jan 2007 141
The promise of a fine walk to come as we survey our route and the clearing cloud from Liathach's easternmost summit - Stuc A Choire Dhuibh Bhig (915m). Torridon, NW Scotland. Fly to this location (Requires Google Earth )

Lunch On Top of the World

06 Jan 2007 133
One of the best things about British mountains is that in general you can get to the top of them - although Liathach presents more of a challenge than some. We spent a very pleasant lunch break here at Spidean a Coire Leith (1055m) admiring this view of the Beinn Eighe mountain chain and the lower slopes of Liathach. During the whole day in these fabulous conditions we encountered just one group of four other people. However our lunch break was spectacularly interrupted by a fast jet, flying from behind where we sitting, just 40m away from us below and to our left. The pilot proceeded to skim the top of Beinn Eighe before climbing for a huge loop. I think he was enjoying the mountains just as much as we were! Torridon, NW Scotland.

Reflections across Loch Maree

29 Dec 2006 134
Loch Maree has to be one of if not the most scenic of Sotland's lochs. There are many different views of which this is just one. NW Scotland.

Mountains and Beach

29 Dec 2006 150
Looking towards An Teallach (1059m) from Camas a Charraig beach at Mellon Udrigle. In the evening light with a touch of cloud this mountains lives up to the translation of its name - 'The Forge'. NW Scotland.

Empty Beach

29 Dec 2006 117
A wonderful quiet white shell sand beach at Camas a Charraig. Shame the weather can't always be relied upon but it was very pleasant on this day. NW Scotland.

Scree Run and then Some

29 Dec 2006 132
The quartzite boulders on the southern flanks of Beinn Eighe would make a fairly tough scree run I imagine. We chose the rather easier descent provided by Coire an Laoigh. Torridon, NW Scotland.

On Beinn Alligin

29 Dec 2006 108
Looking towards Beinn Alligin's second highest top - Tom na Gruagaich (922m), after which it is all (steeply) downhill to home comforts. Beinn Alligin roughly translates to 'jewelled mountain' and it is certainly a very attractive mountain. Torridon, NW Scotland.
