Das frei neben der Kirche stehende Gebäude der Lateinschule von 1610 ist ein beeindruckendes Bauwerk der Renaissance und zählt zu den schöneren und für den Landkreis Hildesheim typischen in den Gefachen dekorierten Fachwerkhäusern. Neben einfach gemauerten Ziegelpassagen gibt es über 100 Darstellungen in Bild und Text mit humanistischer Themenauswahl.. Auf das Gebäude sind die Alfelder stolz und entsprechend ausführlich ist diese Lateinschule auch im Internet dokumentiert.

Links ist die Marktkirche bzw St. Nikolai: Rechterhand sind die beiden Gebäude des ehemaligen Rathauses zu sehen, sie sind im Stile der Weserrenaissance nach Art des Bückeburger Schlosses gebaut.
