Saint Godehard is the most elegant one under the Hildesheimer churches. Nearly all pillars of the middle are with attic bases and their cube capitals are covered like shown in the picture with ornamental sculptures are covered. Start of construction work of the church under bishop Bernhard I (1130-53) finished in 1172. The pillars and pillars of the central nave are ordered in the supports change from Lower Saxony style. By construction losses and war damages renovation works on the church were required, e.g., from 1962-64.

Grundsteinlegung für die Backsteinkirche war im Jahre 1675 (als Leer ca.4000 Einwohner zählte),der oben gezeigte Bauteil ,links wurde 1706 begonnen Tonnengewölbe und Pfeiler sind reich ausgemalt mit bekannten christlichen Motiven sowie Bildern der Landesherren Ostfrieslands: Fürstin Christine Charlotte (1645-1699) ; Edzard I. (1462-1528) und Carl Edzard (1716-1744) dem letzten ostriesischen Fürst. Der Orgelprospekt stammt aus dem Jahre 1795, das Orgelgehäuse stellte der Tischler Budde aus Leer her, das Schnitzwerk D. Koch aus Weener. Die Orgel selbst stammt aus dem Jahre 2002 und ist von der Firma Jürgen Ahrend aus Leer/Loga: damit möchte ich auf die lange Orgelbautradition und sehr interessante Orgellandschaft in diesem Gebiet hinweisen.
