Somebody cuts the sandstone plates free from ivy, so that visitors can read the names of the fallen. All around the cross you see in the picture right down,is big; maybe are there 20 records. Each full with names and data of dead burgher. Villages like Amelinghausen, Sottorf, Eitzen or Rehlingen have own dead person's lists in a well-ordered manner after death date.
While in hamlets the fallen are honoured with name it goes up in bigger German cities mostly anonymously. There hardly ever a monument in Germany cover names of the persons them your life have lost.
I have given up asking unknown Persons more: The wars are over long and so a lot is forgotten.
