A snapshot of "Johnny Gaso" (or "Gasso"), who was the "host of Wonderland," which was located in the Gas Exhibits Building at the New York World's Fair. Wood explains in his book New York's 1939-1940 World's Fair (Charleston, S.C.: Arcadia, 2004), p. 104, visitors to the Gas Exhibits Building in 1940 saw a "Gas Wonderland" that included "mystery gardens, disappearing dwarfs, flaming cactus plants, and Tiny Town with talking houses."

"Sunset Park. We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy Skating New Year." This photographic greeting card shows sisters Beatrice, Henrietta, and Victory Baumgart (I'm not sure who's who in the photo). The Baumgart sisters operated the Sunset Park Rink in Williamsport, Pa., for a number of years in the 1930s. According to a brief biography posted on Dropzone.com, a skydiving Web site, Edward "Eddie" Butler was a barnstormer and stunt parachute jumper who had made over 1,600 jumps by 1934. He also worked as a parachute tester at the Switlik Parachute Co. He died in an airplane crash in 1944. This small card--about the size of a modern business card--may have been given out at parachute jumping demonstrations.
