Palisades Hike, February 14, 1915

|
A photo of day trippers (people on a day out, groups or individuals) for the Vintage Photos Theme Park.
Real photo postcard caption: "Palisades Hike, Feb. 14, '15. #5. E."
Eight individuals appear in this "Palisades Hike" photo taken on February 14, 1915, but I'm not sure exactly what they're doing or which Palisades they're visiting (see a list of possible locations on Wikipedia's Palisades disambiguation page).
The woman in the foreground is carrying an American flag, and the two men on the left are apparently moving rocks around (or looking under them?) as a boy standing in the middle of the stream watches. The others in the background seem to be cautiously making their way over some of the large boulders situated along the other side of the stream.
Perhaps the "#5" designation means that this is the fifth in a series of photos taken that day by a photographer whose name might be indicated by the circled "E." If so, we may have to wait to see if additional photos turn up in order to learn more about these Palisades hikers and the trip they took on Valentine's Day in 1915.

A photo of hikers from the Victorian era or another time period for the Vintage Photos Theme Park.
A real photo postcard with a handwritten note: "Taken in Sages Ravine, Mass. Helen Allison."
Curiously, although the photo was taken in Massachusetts, the address on the back of the card is "Mrs. A. G. Briggs, Grundy Centre, Grundy Co., Iowa," and the postmark is "Saegerstown, Pa., Aug. 18, 1906."

Getting ahead among the roots and rocks.
The dealer from whom I purchased this photo speculated that it may have been taken at Devil's Den or some other rocky area on the Gettysburg Battlefield in Adams County, Pennsylvania, but I have not been able to confirm this.
Five Men at Devil's Den, Gettysburg, Pa.

A souvenir photo ("no. 3729," as noted by the photographer) showing four men at Devil's Den , an outcropping of massive granite boulders located on the Gettysburg Battlefield in Adams County, Pennsylvania.
The man who's partially visible at far left is probably looking at a small pool of water produced by a spring underneath the boulder (the sign on the rock above him--although unreadable in this photo--likely provides information about the spring).

Three out of four men display their patterned footwear in this socks (striped, Argyll, tights, fishnets, men's/women's garters) photo for the Vintage Photos Theme Park. For some other pertinent previously posted pictures, see my slides of Yellow Socks Guy (also known as Pipe-Smoking Man ).
This is a real photo postcard showing four men posing for a souvenir picture at Devil's Den , which is an outcropping of massive granite boulders located on the Gettysburg Battlefield , a U.S. Civil War site in Adams County, Pennsylvania.
The man who's barely visible at bottom left is probably peering down to take a look at a small pool of water produced by a spring underneath the boulder.
