The Nebraska Corn Crop Was Not a Tee-total Failure…

27 Aug 2018 2 1 523
A photo of fields, crops, pastures for the Vintage Photos Theme Park. Handwritten note on the back of the photo: "Here is a picture, and it does not look as if Nebraska was a tee-total failure in 1926. But 50% was a failure on the corn crop for 1926. Mr. H. G. Bolz." Rubberstamped on back: "Van Doran Photo Shop, 1406 O St., Lincoln, Neb." Prohibition was in effect and alcoholic beverages were banned in the U.S. when this photo was taken in 1926, so perhaps teetotalism was on the writer's mind when he said that the corn crop wasn't a "tee-total" failure.

Small Shoe, 1882. Big Shoe, 1926.

When I purchased this unused real photo postcard at a postcard show a few years ago, I thought it would be a straightforward matter to determine whose shoes these were. My first thought was that they belonged to someone like Robert Wadlow (1918-1940), who at 8 feet 11.1 inches "was the tallest person in history for whom there is irrefutable evidence." But since Wadlow was born in 1918, the smaller shoe from 1882 couldn't be his, and the larger shoe from 1926 dates to when Wadlow was 8 years old. Surely he wasn't wearing shoes that large at such a young age!

Save the Day with Snap Shots--Next Year Might Be T…

"Save the day with snap shots. Thanksgiving, the day of the year which brings most families together, is a splendid opportunity to take snap-shots of the entire family, both singly and as a group. Next year may be too late. Have your camera and a few extra film ready. Master Photo Finishers of America." After I posted this previously on that other site , it was mentioned on PetaPixel and featured by Xeni Jardin on Boing Boing : "Get a load of this print ad from the Master Photo Finishers of America, 1926. . . . Scanned . . . by Alan Mays, whose photo stream is full of wonderful vintage weirdness."
