Greetings from the Grange Encampment and Fair, Cen…

27 Aug 2018 2 2 516
Postcard addressed on the other side to: "Prof. H. C. Klinger, Liverpool, Pa., R.F.D. #1." Partial transcription of the message (no year and no postmark): "Sept. 17th, 9 a.m. At Grange Park C. H. in remembrance of the hunting . . . J. J. Jordan." The Centre County Grange Encampment and Fair --usually just called the "Grange Fair"--has been held annually in Centre Hall, Pennsylvania, since 1874. Grin and Bear It

05 Dec 2016 3 1 1069
A what a grin photo for the Vintage Photos Theme Park. Written on the front of this real photo postcard: "Hello Enulia, this is me. Harold Andersun" (my best guesses for the spelling of the names). Stamped on the back: "Downers Grove Photo Studio" (which was probably located in Downers Grove, Illinois) . Poor Harold has evidently heard the bad news about Ipernity but is still putting on a brave front (unlike me, who's having a bit of trouble mustering up a smile).

Good Humor Man Mask

23 Oct 2015 5 4 2825
The back of this Good Humor Man paper mask from the 1960s gives assembly instructions (push out the perforated ear flaps, attach elastic band, put it around your head) and then advises, "Hi, now you're a Good Humor Man, too. Always remember why Good Humor Ice Cream is by far the best. Good Humors are made from sweet ice cream and delicious fresh fruits.... And Good Humors are covered with a thick layer of rich Dutch chocolate." Yum!

Corny Ears

01 Apr 2014 3 1 1541
A real photo postcard, probably from Iowa, circa 1910s. There are newspaper pages underneath the ears of corn that the guy is holding, and details from the top corners of two pages are barely visible under enlargement. The headline of an article on one page begins with "Iowa M," and "[In]heritance" seems to be part of a section header on another page. At the top of the Inheritance page, the partial newspaper name and date looks like: "and Leader, Sunday Morning, November 14, 1910" (Leader, Sunday, Morning, and November are the only words that I'm reasonably sure about; another problem is that November 14 in 1910 wasn't a Sunday). If "Iowa" is a clue about the newspaper's origin, then perhaps the paper was the Davenport Democrat and Leader or the Des Moines Register and Leader .

Merry Costumed Christmas

A bunny, a tiger, and Santa? "Merry Christmas, Cynthia, David, Betty, and Don."

Halloween Pirate Mask

03 Oct 2013 5 1430
"Old Fashion Ginger Snaps. Baked by Nabisco. National Biscuit Company." In addition to this paper pirate mask, Nabisco also promoted its Old Fashion Ginger Snaps with a "Rocket Man" mask (which turned up in a Google search--I wish I had a copy of it!), and I'm guessing that both masks probably date to the 1960s or 1970s. And who knew that pirates had such big ears? 8-)
