(I'm finally caught up on the Vintage Photos Theme Park postings I missed while Ipernity was offline.)
A Vintage Photos Theme Park photo for the theme of by the lake .
"Birds Eye View, Loon Lake and Freedom , N.H. 9."
This area was the setting for the intriguing story of the mysterious House on Loon Lake , profiled in an episode of This American Life radio show (take a look at the assortment of ephemera found at the house , which includes an acquaintance card similar to the ones in my album ).
This is a real photo postcard addressed on the other side to Mrs. Bruce Mather, Benton, Penna., and postmarked in Kezar Falls, Maine, on August 24, 1934.
Handwritten message: "Howdy Darl, Here is where we are getting all our swimming exercise. We climbed Mt. Chocorua yesterday, We made it to return on Thursday from the White Mountains. On Monday morning we leave for Boston. Will be seeing you soon. Rhoda."
Printed on the other side: "Photograph Post Card from Studio of Eastern Illustrating Co., Belfast, ME."

I sure hope Santa gets a new airplane this year! He's still making deliveries with his old biplane. 8-)

Reward of Merit
Presented to Charles Burns, by Maria S. Hale.
Come let us haste to the schoolroom away,
Nor tarry a moment of time on the way,
For when lessons are learn'd & our tasks are done,
We may sport on the green till the set of the sun.
A Very Happy Easter to You

But how can we be happy when the Fairy Pied Piper (who seems to be playing a flower rather than a pipe) is leading all of the chicks away from the village?
Note also the inset photo of a girl and a boy in the middle of the postcard.
Brown Village (Detail)

"Brown Village" is the caption on this real photo postcard signed by "Frazer," but I haven't been able to figure out who constructed this miniature village, where it was located, and whether the buildings in it correspond to those in an actual town somewhere in the United States. Mouse over the image to see a close-up of part of the village .
The buildings, some of which are labeled, include a "Cudahy Packing Co., U.S.A." plant, water mill, church, "General Store," "Hotel," "Village School," and "Black Smith" shop. The initials "TVB" appear on a water tank above the Cudahy Packing Company, and a small sign next to the plant says, "Please Do Not Touch."
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to determine what TVB stands for, nor have I been able to match the miniature Cudahy company building with a specific location (according to Wikipedia, the Cudahy Packing Company operated in over 97 U.S. cities by 1922).
So until additional information comes to light, Brown Village will have to remain hidden somewhere in the twilight of some unknown zone.

Gilbert's Guide. Along the Lincoln Highway in Pennsylvania from the Ohio line to Philadelphia. To find the distance between two places, move the slide to the name of place at top of card. The number in the first row opposite the name on slide is the distance in miles. Daniel Gilbert, Chambersburg, Pa.
