An enlarged view of the board, game pieces, and dice cups in a trick photo of two young men playing against themselves in a game of Parcheesi. The photo is well composed with only a translucent part of the Parcheesi board underneath the hand on the right and a slightly darker streak running vertically through the middle of the photo to give away the double exposure. I'm not certain what might have caused the dark shape on the side of the building directly above the board. For more information, see the full version of this real photo postcard. .

A Vintage Photos Theme Park photo for the theme of playing cards and board games . Two young men pretend to play Parcheesi against themselves as they pose (two times!) for this double exposure photograph. Take a look at a cropped version of the photo showing a close-up view of the Parcheesi board on the top of the table. This is an unused real photo postcard with the words "Post Card" and "The address to be written on this side" printed on its undivided back, which suggests that it may date to sometime during the first decade of the twentieth century.

A photo of something beginning with C —in this case, a coach on a photographic Christmas card —for the Vintage Photos Theme Park. "Best wishes for a Merry Christmas. Ollie." Oliver "Ollie" Fawcett coached the Lycoming Dairy team, which was an early Little League Baseball team in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. He used a photograph of himself and the team on this Christmas card from the 1950s. Coach Fawcett and the boys are posing in front of the field house at what is now known as the historic Carl E. Stotz Field , which is named after the founder of Little League .

"'Rah, 'rah, 'rah, Thanks-giving!!! HBG." Is it a tussle on the football field? Post-game hugs? Or something else? I'm not sure what's going in this scene created by postcard artist H. B. Griggs and dated November 26, 1912, on the other side. There's no football visible, but the "rah, rah, rah" certainly sounds like a typical college football game cheer (see the chants in North American sports section of Wikipedia's Cheering article for examples).

From what I can determine, Tom Turkey is driving the winning football team to a victory meal. But does Tom know what main dish is traditionally served at a Thanksgiving dinner?

Photo studio: John S. Fritz, 852 Penn Street, Reading, Pa. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to uncover any information regarding a "Hercules" baseball team in or around Reading, Pennsylvania, in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

A photo of folded arms and/or crossed legs for the Vintage Photos Theme Park. "...Base-ball Club, Boswel....weg. [or neg.?] by Wm. Hicks." This is a damaged real photo postcard of a baseball club from Boswell , Somerset County, Pennsylvania, dating to the 1900s or 1910s. Although part of the handwritten caption is missing due to the torn-off corner, the baseball club name appears to have been the Regulars, judging by the shirt worn by the man standing on the left with his hands on his hips. Other players are standing with their arms folded, and some are sitting cross-legged on the ground. William Hicks was a 24-year-old resident of Boswell when he listed his occupation as photographer on a marriage license application dated November 25, 1907 (as viewed on the Ancestry web site). His wife-to-be was Catharine E. Henry, who was 18 years old and also lived in Boswell. I haven't been able to locate any additional information about William Hicks and his photographic work, but I'm guessing that he may have been the photographer for two other real photo postcards from the same town: Nicollette at Boswell, Pa. , and Atlantic Coal Company's Mine, Boswell, Pa.

One in a series of baseball-themed advertising trade cards published in 1887 by Tobin, this card featured a caricature of Charlie Ferguson, who was a well-regarded pitcher for the Philadelphia Quakers team. Sadly, it turned out that 1887 was the final season that Ferguson played--he died from typhoid fever in April 1888. -------- "Philadelphia. 'Not Onto It.' (Ferguson.) Tobin N.Y." "A. W. A tintype photo for the Vintage Photos Theme Park. Another painted version of Niagara Falls (see also Holding a Bucket Under Niagara Falls ) appears in the background of this souvenir tintype photo, which originally came in a paper mount that would have covered up the uneven edges and clipped corners. The woman is holding a doll that appears to be dressed in a baseball uniform, and what looks like a purse is tucked under one of the doll's arms. Although it's difficult to see at the very edge of the photo, the man seems to be holding a stuffed animal of some sort. Notice that--like all tintypes--the image is reversed, so that the "L" on the doll's uniform is backwards. The falls on the painted backdrop are also reversed--the Horseshoe Falls at left should actually be on the right-hand side of the photo, while the American Falls at right should appear on the left-hand side. Mouse over the top of the tintype to see a mirror image of the photo that shows the "L" and the falls in their proper order.
