A Vintage Photos Theme Park photo for the monthly topic of family gatherings for Thanksgiving or other occasions .
A family pauses for a photo before they dig in to their Thanksgiving dinner. Despite the turkey, pies, and other dishes on the table , my eye was drawn to the kerosene lamp hanging from the ceiling, the elaborate design of the wallpaper in the background, and the cylinder phonograph hidden in the shadows on the sideboard. See a cropped version of the photo for a better view of these items. For another photo with a similar phonograph, see Young Man Posing with an Edison Cylinder Phonograph .
This is a real photo postcard with a divided back (introduced in 1907) but no stamp box, address, or message.

A Vintage Photos Theme Park photo for the theme of unique or outrageous hats .
This is a real photo postcard sent from Jacksonville, Florida, to Newton, New Hampshire, on March 31, 1906.
Printed on the other side: "Post Card, Souvenir, Jacksonville. J. A. Hollingsworth, Tourist Photographer, Hogan St., Opp. Park Hotel, Jacksonville, Fla."
Message written on the front: "Jacksonville, Fla., March 31. Whatever you do, don't come to Florida. Look at this picture and see how we have 'fallen from the crust.' Am so weak that I can hardly manage my auto . Hope to be better by tomorrow. Will."
If Will could afford an automobile like the one he's pretending to drive, then he must not have "fallen from the [upper] crust ," as he jokingly suggests.
See a cropped version for a better view of Will and his wife, their hats, and the automobile.
A Pair of Parcheesi-Playing Posers (Detail)

An enlarged view of the board, game pieces, and dice cups in a trick photo of two young men playing against themselves in a game of Parcheesi. The photo is well composed with only a translucent part of the Parcheesi board underneath the hand on the right and a slightly darker streak running vertically through the middle of the photo to give away the double exposure. I'm not certain what might have caused the dark shape on the side of the building directly above the board.
For more information, see the full version of this real photo postcard.

A Vintage Photos Theme Park photo for the theme of playing cards and board games .
Two young men pretend to play Parcheesi against themselves as they pose (two times!) for this double exposure photograph.
Take a look at a cropped version of the photo showing a close-up view of the Parcheesi board on the top of the table.
This is an unused real photo postcard with the words "Post Card" and "The address to be written on this side" printed on its undivided back, which suggests that it may date to sometime during the first decade of the twentieth century.
Handlebar Mustache Disguise Kit

Despite the impressive illustration, this small Cracker Jack prize, constructed of multi-layered cardboard, required kids to pull the layers apart, push out die-cut pieces, and then stick the pre-gummed areas of the pieces together in order to form a less-than-convincing moustache disguise.
Text printed on the back of the kit (the numbers and letters refer to a small accompanying diagram): "Instructions. Back of pieces 1 & 2 are gummed. Push out pieces 1 & 3. Moisten back of end marked A on 1 and stick on end marked A of [on] 3."
Todd Franklin (Neato Coolville) also has a copy of this over on Flickr: Cracker Jack Handlebar Mustache Disguise Kit .
