Castro is a fortified village of the Antiquity. This is a reconstitution of a particular one, within the council of Mondim de Basto, that was inhabited between the 4th century BC and the 1st century AD, whose ruins can be visited. This model is displayed in the Municipal Museum, at Professor Street.

Red corn cobs can be seen in the baskets. Finding one of these is completely hazardous. Whoever found one during colective defoliation should announce it and, according to tradition, was entitled to hug or kiss all the other workers, male or female.
