In ancient Egypt this plant was used to produce the predecessor of paper - named papyrus, after the plant. Writing or painting on it was an useful possibility. Nowadays there is an offer of painted papyrus to the visitors of Egypt, which is enough to keep the traditional manufacture alive. The photo was taken at Chão das Artes Garden, Cerca House, Almada.
