Seen from the ferry during the return from Porto Novo (Santo Antão Island) to Mindelo (São Vicente Island). This islet is a sanctuary for birds and stands as guardian of Mindelo Bay.

As the ferry Mar d'Canal leaves Mindelo Bay behind, within the 1 hour trip between the islands of São Vicente and Santo Antão, in the northwest of Cape Verde archipelago. The distance to be travelled is about 33 km (18 nautical miles).

This islet became a reserve for birds in 1973. It has a lighthouse on the top (82 metres of altitude). It is located at the exit of Mindelo Bay, 1 km far from João Ribeiro Point, where this photo was taken (with zoom).
