During the Peninsular War, when General Massena led the napoleonic army in the third invasion of Portugal, the Convent of the Holy Cross of Buçaco became the headquarters of the Anglo-Portuguese coalition, whose commander - Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington - occupied this cell. The cork details - on interior window shutters, on door frames and on the ceiling - are worth a look.

The Neomanueline style can be seen all over this 5 stars hotel. In the porch that surrounds the ground-floor we can see tiles' panels between the windows or doors. The hotel's restaurant is exclusive for the hotel guests,

Constructed between 1888 and 1907 after a project of the architect Luigi Manini, it was initially the Royal Game Pavilion. Not for long: monarchy gave way to republic in 1910 and some years later it was fully adapted to hotel. It is located at Buçaco Forest Road.

Buçaco Battle brought about the defeat of General Massena's troops in 1810, within the 3rd napoleonic invasion of Portugal. This monument was erected in 1873 and its location and characteristics of lightning rod caused its destruction by a thunderstorm in 1876. It was reconstructed in 1879.
