This old cathedral was classified as UNESCO heritage in 1994. It is located in the historic centre of Mtskheta. This city was the capital of Iberia (approximately the present Georgian region of Cartlia) between the 3rd century BC and the 6th century AD.

From Jvari Monastery. River Aragvi (the darkest, on the right) is a tributary of River Kura, which flows to the left; downstream it crosses Tbilisi, reaches Azerbaijan, crossing this country till its mouth into the Caspian Sea.
