POSTCARD
Date: Not evident. Likely 1906-1907
Publisher / Photographer: L.J. De Nobele, Winnipeg #40
Notation: This image shows the Eaton's building with the original 5 storeys. Opened in 1905, three additional stories were added by 1910.
Of particular interest: On the reverse side, the message section has been printed with an advertising message for a clothing store in Brussels with the catch phrase (translated from French): "Do you want to be well-dressed at a good price?" Apparently the card could be sent by the store as an advertising piece. This is presumably a secondary use of the card. I am aware of one other Brussels-based company that used cards by this publisher in a similar way.

Posted from Oshawa to Miami, Manitoba in April 1906, the message on the reverse reflects the popularity of postcard collecting & how folks established exchange partners in different locales.
In this instance Hallie L. Stevenson in Oshawa sent this card to Hubert H. Storey in Miami with the message; "Per post card-exchange Montreal "Family Herald and Weekly Star".
I am speculating that Mr. Storey placed an avertisement/notice in the Herald/Star inviting people to join in a postcard exchange with him. This notion is strengthened by Ms, Stevenson's curt message and the fact that her mailing address accompanies her signature. (Uncommon for postcard messages.)
WP1878 WPG - VIEW OF NORTH WINNIPEG

Unposted, the stamp box on the reverse of this card indicates that it is from the 1904 - 1918 period. Entitled "View of North Winnipeg", it is likely being taken from a spot near the corner of Kennedy and Broadway - with a view to the north east.
The building on the right would be Alexandra School, located at the S.E. corner of Edmonton Street & St. Mary Avenue. Behind it and towards the left would be Eatons.
No photographer or publisher is identified.
