WP2021 WPG - ST B - HOTEL DE VILLE (TOWN HALL)

12 Jan 2016 206
POSTCARD Date: Not evident. Unposted. Publisher / Photographer: Unidentified Notation: Located at 219 Provencher Avenue, the Town Hall was opened in the spring of 1906. To compensate for cost overruns, however, the builder had decided to modify the original plans and forgo the imposing tower in favour of a rather squat little dome. The public was outraged by the "behive" as it was dubbed, and by 1908 had forced the builder to rebuild the tower in keeping with the original plans. Further information on the St. Boniface Town Hall can found at: www.winnipeg.ca/ppd/historic/pdf-consv/Provencher%20219-long.pdf

MN0152 KILLARNEY - TOWN HALL

06 Jan 2016 1 159
POSTCARD Date: Not evident. Publisher / Photographer: P. C. Edwards, Killarney Notation: Nice early view of the Town Hall with a fire-fighting vehicle displayed in the open doors of the garage. Given his flat-topped cap and apparent uniform, I am surmising that the gentleman on the steps could be one of the Firemen, if not the Chief.

MN0335 KILLARNEY - TOWN HALL

06 Jan 2016 3 168
POSTCARD Date: Not evident. Unposted Publisher / Photographer: Unidentified Notation: I am pretty certain that this winter photo was taken while the Town Hall (& Fire Station) was still under construction. The four fellows in while, I am guessing, are tradesmen of some kind - perhaps painters. The bell is not yet installed in the tower. Many of the windows are boarded up indicating that the glass has not yet been installed.
