KN0375 KENORA - [CIRCUS ANIMALS - ELEPHANTS & CAME…

15 Oct 2016 3 272
POSTCARD Date: Not evident. Not Posted. Publisher / Photographer: Unidentified Notation: Elephants and camels strolling on the road beside the park attached to the C.P.R. Station in Kenora, (Station is to the right of this picture.) It seems quite likely that the circus arrived by train, as a journey by road from the nearest sizeable town (Winnipeg) would have been over 100 miles of primitive roads through inhospitable terrain. Note on reverse reads; "This is some of the circus that was here. I finished them up, and painted them myself too." POSTCARD Date: Posted May 20, 1914. Publisher / Photographer: Unidentified Notation:Real photo postcard looking north up Sherbrook Street from Portage Avenue. The large building on the left side is the Deaf & Dumb Institute, occupying the space now home to the Lions' Manor. A little further up the street is Fire hall #5. Built in 1904 the building ceased operations as a fire hall in 1919, was repurposed several times throughout the years until finally demolished in 2011. What is that small structure with a brick chimney on the boulevard at the bottom left?

MN1018 SHOAL LAKE - (ELEVATORS & STATION)

22 Dec 2015 2 182
POSTCARD Date: Posted November 28, 1904 from Shoal Lake to Mr. E. A. Cress in Minden City, Michigan. Publisher / Photographer: Unidentified Notation: Postcard is on "Classic" early Velox undivided back Private Post Card stock. As best as I can make it out, note on front reads: "Shoal Lake, Man Nov 27/4 Dear E.S. - Papers to bond(?), OK. Have Roosefelt on the wall in the office. Busy as a sailor these days. Hope you are having a good trade this Fall. This shows part of the elevator capacity here. Storage capacity of 165,000 bu (bushels). Also shows our home. Why don't you answer our letters. Bert" The station house is on the right. Given the nature and content of the note, I am assuming that Bert may have been the station master and that he (and his family?) may have resided in the station itself. The two identified elevators are Scott's Elevator and Northern Elevator Co. Ltd.

This is apparently part of a set produced by an unidentified publisher/photographer. I also have #4 in the set which is the full front of the CP station. I also have #s 7,10, 11 &12 which are all of Banff and nearby mountains. #10 & 11 are virtually identical so I suspect this set was not produced for commercial purposes.
