POSTCARD
Date: Posted August 29, 1908 from Richard & Isabelle Winnipeg to Mrs. Wm. Craig, Gibbland Farm, Abbotsford, Que.
Publisher / Photographer: Russell, Lang & Co.
Notation: This is another in a collection of postcards that I have acquired from Richard Faries.
This one, from Richard & his new bride Isabelle, is addressed to Isabelle's mother. It is in addition to one Richard to her, himself, that same day. The message on the reverse reads; "We were out visiting last night with some friends. They gave Isabelle a lovely bunch of sweet peas. Today the city of Winnipeg is hot & unpleasant & we wish we were out in the country where we could breathe the pure air. We send you a paper containing some remarks about us. Hope you are well and not too lonely. Remember that we are happy. Your affectionate children, Richard & Isabelle."

Date: Not evident. Unposted, but the AZO stamp box had known usage through 1904 -1917.
Publisher / Photographer: Meyers Photo, Winnipeg
Notation: Message on reverse reads; "A nice view of part of Main St. You can see the Fort Garry Hotel in the distance. This picture is taken from the City Hall square at the foot of William Avenue."
Of particular note in this image: The Volunteer Monument in the front left side with the Confederation Life Building behind it, Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee Monument in the bottom right corner, and a rare image of this gentleman watering the flower beds with a hose.

POSTCARD
Date: Not posted. Not evident.
Publisher / Photographer: L. J. De Nobele Import, Winnipeg #25
Notation: Publisher Louis De Nobele, a florist and co-founder of Winnipeg's Belgian Club, was an early Winnipeg-based postcard publisher. Along with some other folks, I've been trying to learn more about Louis & his postcard publishing venture. One of the things we have noticed is that there are differences in the cards with the same number & caption which seem to indicate various print runs. This card, #25, is a good example. This is the fourth version of #25 that I have encountered.

Date: Written August 17, 1905
Publisher / Photographer: W. G. MacFarlane, Toronto #450
Notation: Message reads: "So far so good. Met an old Waterford H.S. student accidentally on boarding the train yesterday morning in Medicine Hat. He knows various people in & around Brantford, Vanessa & Waterford; also several officials of the T. H. & B. Particulars later. In the meantime you can be guessing.
Winnipeg with its populayion of 90 thousand is a bustling centre. Was round to see an old acquaintance or two this morning & leave this afternoon for Dakota. It is raining here but I hope the shower is not general."
Note: T. H. & B. was likely the Toronto, Hamilton and Buffalo Railway.

WP1922 WPG - (EAST SIDE OF MAIN STREET FROM CITY H…

Date: Unposted. Likely 1910 (from note in the album this came from).
Publisher / Photographer: The (low) quality of this photograph and the fact that, along with three others, it came from a private photo album indicates that this was likely not a commercially produced postcard, but one taken as a personal photograph by an individual - likely a traveller/visitor.
The scene is likely taken looking east from the steps of the old City Hall. In the foreground are the Volunteer Monument - now adjacent to the Concert Hall, Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee Monument - now at the English Gardens at Assiniboine Park, and the backside of the Boy with the Boot statue - now at the entrance to Assiniboine Park's English Gardens.
The following signage is evident on buildings on the far (East) side of Main Street, left to right:
- Foley Bros. Larson
- Open Evenings . New Method Dental Parlors . Operations
- Iroquois Hotel
- Thompson Block (499 Main St.)
- Thompson Undertaker
- MacPherson Fruit Co. (491 Main St.)
- McCarey's
- Blackwood (cover on the horse-drawn wagon)

Unposted.
Publisher: Lyall Commercial
This image is post 1913 as the East Wing of the Manitoba Club has been added. Interesting features of this image include the "Chevrolet Building" seen in the background to the left of the Fort Garry Hotel and the smoke stacks of the street car power plant seen behind the Manitoba Club.
